TECH Adds Its Voice to “Retread Instead”
“Retread Instead” is an industry advocacy group formed to urge Congress to reconsider the China truck tire import duties. The group under the “Retread Instead” collective identity, is urging fellow industry colleagues to join in the effort to bring the matter to their respective U.S. Senators attention and has drafted a sample letter for them to use (we include a link to download the letter below).
This initiative was born out of a meeting with representatives from TECH, Marangoni Tread, McGriff Tire, Premier Rubber, Cross Dillon Tire, Pomp’s Tire Service, and Accella Corporation. The group focused on ways to ensure that a full compliment of ITC Commissioners is seated in advance of a ruling by the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT) on an appeal filed by the United Steelworkers Union (USW) regarding China truck tire dumping.
According to TECH’s Tim BeVier “With the collective support of this group and other industry colleagues, our goal is to generate thousands of letters to our electorate to inform them of the economic and environmental consequences of these low-quality truck tires which are unable to be retreaded and are also sold well below fair market value”.
The draft letter points out that U.S jobs will be negatively impacted and that most of these tires will end up prematurely in U.S. landfills.TECH is parent company TRC’s legacy Tire & Wheel brand whose products are used by all major tire retreaders including Michelin, Goodyear and Bandag. TECH as the industry authority on proper tire repair, supports this initiative which aligns with parent TRC’s 4r vison of Repair, Reuse, Recycle & Repurpose.
